OOC: Best Prescribing Practices For Opioids

Course Description:

This course is part of a 23-course curricula series developed by expert healthcare professionals to educate a variety of disciplines about drug addiction and its impact.  The Best Prescribing Practices for Opioids course provides detailed information on the prescribing guidelines and the purpose behind them.  The course highlights Ohio specific rules for prescribing opioids for acute, sub-acute, and chronic pain as well as other prescribing considerations such as emergency department guidelines and tapering.  Pain management practices for patients with opioid addiction are also identified.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of prescribing guidelines and how to utilize them for treatment considerations.
  2. Describe Ohio’s rules for prescribing opioids for acute, sub-acute, and chronic pain.
  3. Understand pain management practices for patients with opioid addiction.
  4. Develop awareness of prescribing considerations for various patient scenarios.
